economics of socialism

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.
As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.
To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed. Could not be any simpler than that. (Please pass this on) These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

creativity of school girl

Awesome...... A story in one of the schools in Chennai where admission is considered

impossible!!!
To get UKG admission
The child could not understand why they brought her there..
When we all were standing, the school principal started to converse with the child....yes...in English only! This is one of the most memorable interview I have ever witnessed in my life..
Here goes..
"What's your name?"
"Sarithra"
"Good. Tell me something you know"
"I know many things. Tell me what you want...!"
Alas, there is no better point for not getting the admission!
Sarithra's mother was trying to make up the situation but the principal stopped her..
Turning to child, she said.. "Tell any rhyme or story which you know.."
Again,"Which one you want.. Rhyme or Story!?"
"Ok. Plz tell me a story.."
"Do uou want to hear what I studied or what I wrote..!?"
Taken to surprise, she asked "Oh! you write stories...???"
"Why should I not write..?"
Now even I was taken aback But she was impressed with the answer. She ( including us) would have not heard such a story in our life...
Ok, tell me story which you have written-?
Sarithra said "Ravanan kidnapped Sita & took her to Srilanka"
The opening scene failed to impress but still she encouraged the child to continue..
"Rama asked Hanumans help to rescue Sita. Hanuman too agreed to help Rama ..."
"Then?"
"Now, Hanuman called his friend Spider man." No one expected this twist in the story!!
"Why?"
"Because there are lot of mountains between India and Srilanka.. but if we have Spiderman we can go easily with his rope..."
"But Hanuman can fly isn't it.. ?"
"Yes. But he is having Sanjeevi Mountain on one hand so he cannot fly very fast.!"
All is quiet, after a while Sarithra asked "Should I continue or not?.".
"Ok plz continue!"
"Hanuman and Spiderman flew to Srilanka and rescued Sita. Sita said Thanks to both!"
"Why"
"When you are helped you should say Thanks!"
So Sita requested Hanuman to call Hulk..."
All were surprised. She realized our curiosity and said " Now Sita is there, so to take her safely back to Rama she called Hulk"
"What??? "Hanuman can carry Sita right?"
"Yes. But he has Sanjeevi Mountain in one hand and has to hold spider man on the other"
No one could control thier smiles. " So when they all started to India they met my friend Akshay! "
"How come Akshay there now?"
"Because its my story and I can bring any one there!"
The principal didn't get angry but waited for the next twist
Then all started to India and landed at Chennai Velechery bus stop!
Now I asked,"Why they have landed In Velechery bus stop?
"Because they forgot the way..& Hulk got an idea and called Dora!"
I came to know about Dora only there...!
"Dora came and she took Sita to Velechery Venus Colony...that's all!"
She finished the story with a smile.. 😀
The principal asks "Why venus Colony...?"
"Because sita lives there & i am Sita!!!"
The principal was impressed and embraced the child. She has been admitted in UKG & was gifted with a Dora doll...
😊👍👍👏👏😊
Kids can really amaze... but we clip their wings (creativity) expecting them to do things as we see it right & not from their viewpoint.
Let's give every child freedom to do their own thing & watch their dreams come true...
👆 It is One of the good posts I've seen! Wished to share with you!

CommentTwo small stories (it's important you read both) that show how the examples we set today, may help shape the character of generations tomorrow.
---------------------------------
STORY - I
We all know about Al Capone. The notorious gangster, mafia who virtually owned Chicago. He was a crime boss who lorded over the windy city dealing with all sort of crimes prostitution to murder to ...you name it...and he escaped the law for many many years. It was because of one man his -lawyer nicknamed "Easy Eddie."
Eddie was very good! In fact, Eddie's skill at legal maneuvering kept Big Al out of jail for a long time.
To show his appreciation, Capone paid him very well. Not only was the money big, but Eddie got special dividends, as well.
For instance, he and his family occupied a fenced-in mansion with live-in help and all of the conveniences of the day.. The estate was so large that it filled an entire Chicago City block.
Eddie did have one soft spot, however. He had a son that he loved dearly.
And, despite his involvement with organized crime, Eddie tried to teach him right from wrong. Eddie wanted his son to be a better man than he was. Yet, with all his wealth and influence, there were two things he couldn't give his son- he couldn't pass on a Good Name or a Good Example.
One day, Easy Eddie reached a difficult decision. It's believed Easy Eddie wanted to rectify wrongs he had done.
So he decided he would go to the authorities and tell the truth about Al "Scarface" Capone, clean up his tarnished name, and offer his son some semblance of integrity. To do this, he would have to testify against The Mob, and he knew that the cost would be great.
Nevertheless, he testified.
Within the year, Easy Eddie's life ended in a blaze of gunfire on a lonely Chicago Street. But in his eyes, he had given his son the greatest gift he had to offer, at the greatest price he could ever pay. Police removed from his pockets a rosary, a religious symbol and medallion, and a poem clipped from a magazine.
The Poem read:
"The clock of life is wound but once, and no man has the power to tell just when the hands will stop, at late or early hour. Now is the only time you own. Live, love, toil with a will. Place no faith in time. For the clock may soon be still."

STORY - II
World War II produced many heroes. One such man was Lieutenant Cdr Butch O'Hare. He was a fighter pilot assigned to the aircraft carrier Lexington in the South Pacific.
One day his entire squadron was sent on a mission. After he was airborne, he looked at his fuel gauge and realized that someone had forgotten to top off his fuel tank.
He would not have enough fuel to complete his mission and get back to his ship.
His flight leader told him to return to the carrier. Reluctantly, he dropped out of formation and headed back to the fleet.
As he was returning to the mother ship, he saw something that turned his blood cold; a squadron of Japanese aircraft was speeding its way toward the American fleet.
The American fighters were gone on a sortie, and the fleet was all but defenseless. He couldn't reach his squadron and bring them back in time to save the fleet. Nor could he warn the fleet of the approaching danger. There was only one thing to do, only thing he'd learned growing up. He must somehow divert them from the fleet.
Laying aside all thoughts of personal safety, he dove into the formation of Japanese planes. Wing-mounted 50 caliber's blazed as he charged in, attacking one surprised enemy plane and then another. Butch wove in and out of the now broken formation and fired at as many planes as possible until all his ammunition was finally spent.
Undaunted, he continued the assault. He dove at the planes, trying to clip a wing or tail in hopes of damaging as many enemy planes as possible, rendering them unfit to fly.
Finally, the exasperated Japanese squadron took off in another direction.
Deeply relieved, Butch O'Hare and his tattered fighter limped back to the carrier.
Upon arrival, he reported in and related the event surrounding his return. The film from the gun-camera mounted on his plane told the tale. It showed the extent of Butch's daring attempt to protect his fleet. He had, in fact, destroyed five enemy aircraft.
This took place on February 20, 1942 , and for that action Butch became the Navy's first Ace of W.W.II, and the first Naval Aviator to win the Medal of Honor.
A year later Butch was killed in aerial combat at the age of 29. His home town would not allow the memory of this WW II hero to fade, and today, O'Hare Airport in Chicago is named in tribute to the courage of this great man.
So, the next time you find yourself at O'Hare International, give some thought to visiting Butch's memorial displaying his statue and his Medal of Honor. It's located between Terminals 1 and 2.
---------------------------------
Uh..wait, what do these two stories have to do with each other?
Well, you see, Butch O'Hare was .............
"Easy Eddie's" son.

"A cockroach theory for self development" 👍
At a restaurant, a cockroach suddenly flew from somewhere and sat on a lady.
She started screaming out of fear.
With a panic stricken face and trembling voice, she started jumping, with both her hands desperately trying to get rid of the cockroach.
Her reaction was contagious, as everyone in her group also got panicky.
The lady finally managed to push the cockroach away but ...it landed on another lady in the group.
Now, it was the turn of the other lady in the group to continue the drama.
The waiter rushed forward to their rescue.
In the relay of throwing, the cockroach next fell upon the waiter.
The waiter stood firm, composed himself and observed the behavior of the cockroach on his shirt.
When he was confident enough, he grabbed it with his fingers and threw it out of the restaurant.
Sipping my coffee and watching the amusement, the antenna of my mind picked up a few thoughts and started wondering, was the cockroach responsible for their histrionic behavior?
If so, then why was the waiter not disturbed?
He handled it near to perfection, without any chaos.
It is not the cockroach, but the inability of the ladies to handle the disturbance caused by the cockroach that disturbed the ladies.
I realized that, it is not the shouting of my father or my boss or my wife that disturbs me, but it's my inability to handle the disturbances caused by their shouting that disturbs me.
It's not the traffic jams on the road that disturbs me, but my inability to handle the disturbance caused by the traffic jam that disturbs me.
More than the problem, it's my reaction to the problem that creates chaos in my life.
Lessons learnt from the story:
I understood, I should not react in life.
I should always respond.
The women reacted, whereas the waiter responded.
Reactions are always instinctive whereas responses are always well thought of.
A beautiful way to understand............LIFE.
Persons who is HAPPY is not because of Everything is RIGHT in his Life
He is happy because his attitude towards everything in his life is RIGHT! 😃

Leo Velski Julian problem solving story

A group of children were playing near two railway tracks, one still in use while the other disused. Only one child played on the disused track, the  rest on the operational track.

The train is coming, and you are just beside the track interchange. You can make the train change its course to the disused track and save most of the kids. However, that would also mean the lone child playing by the disused track would be sacrificed. Or would you rather let the train go its way?

Let's take a pause to think what kind of decision we could make........

Read below:
.
.

Most people (I'm not the one, certainly) might choose to divert the course of the train, and sacrifice only one child. You might think the same way, I guess. Exactly, to save most of the children at the expense of only one child was rational decision most people would make, morally and emotionally. But, have you ever thought that the child choosing to play on the disused track had in fact made the right decision to play at a safe place?

Nevertheless, he had to be sacrificed because of his ignorant friends who chose to play where the danger was.. This kind of dilemma happens around us everyday. In the office, community, in politics and especially in a democratic society, the minority is often sacrificed for the interest of the majority, no matter how foolish or ignorant the majority are, and how farsighted and knowledgeable the minority are. The child who chose not to play with the rest on the operational track was sidelined. And in the case he was sacrificed, no one would shed a tear for him.

The great critic Leo Velski Julian(I couldn't get much info about this guy on the net) who told the story said he would not try to change the course of the train because he believed that the kids playing on the operational track should have known very well that track was still in use, and that they should have run away if they heard the train's sirens.. If the train was diverted, that lone child would definitely die because he never thought the train could come over to that track! Moreover, that track was not in use probably because it was not safe. If the train was diverted to the track, we could put the lives of all passengers on board at stake! And in your attempt to save a few kids by sacrificing one child, you might end up sacrificing hundreds of people to save these few kids.

While we are all aware that life is full of tough decisions that need to be   made, we may not realize that hasty decisions may not always be the right one.

'Remember that what's right isn't always popular... and what's popular isn't always right.'

he following is a question on a physics exam at the University of Copenhagen:
"Describe how to determine the height of a skyscraper with a barometer."
One student replied: "You tie a long piece of string to the neck of the barometer, then lower the barometer from the roof of the skyscraper to the ground. The length of the string plus the length of the barometer will equal the height of the building."
This highly original answer so incensed the examiner that he failed the student who immediately appealed on the grounds that his answer was indisputably correct.
The university appointed an independent arbiter to decide the case.
The arbiter ruled that the answer was indeed correct, but did not display any noticeable knowledge of physics. It was decided to call the student in and allow him six minutes in which to provide a verbal answer which showed at least a minimal familiarity with the basic principles of physics.
For five minutes the student sat in silence, forehead creased in thought. The arbiter reminded him that time was running out, to which the student replied that he had several extremely relevant answers, but couldn't make up his mind which to use.
On being advised to hurry up the student replied: "First, you could take the barometer up to the roof of the skyscraper, drop it over the edge, and measure the time it takes to reach the ground. The height of the building can then be worked out from this formula I have worked out for you on my text paper here."
Then the student added, "But, Sir, I wouldn't recommend it. Bad luck on the barometer."
"Another alternative", offered the student, "is this: If the sun is shining you could measure the height of the barometer, then set it on end and measure the length of its shadow. Then you measure the length of the skyscraper's shadow, and thereafter it is a simple matter of proportional geometry to work out the height of the skyscraper. On the paper is the formula for that as well."
"But, Sir, if you wanted to be highly scientific about it, you could tie a short piece of string to the barometer and swing it like a pendulum, first at ground level and then on the roof of the skyscraper. The height is worked out by the difference in a gravitational formula, which I have determined here this time on a long sheet of paper with a very long and complicated calculation."
"Or, Sir, here's another way, and not a bad one at all. If the skyscraper has an outside emergency staircase, it would be easier to walk up it and mark off the height of the skyscraper in barometer lengths, then add them up."
"But if you merely wanted to be very boring and very orthodox about the answer you seem to seek, of course, you could use the barometer to measure the air pressure on the roof, and on the ground, and then convert the difference in millibars into feet to give the height of the building."
"But since we are constantly being exhorted to exercise independence of mind and apply scientific methods, undoubtedly the best way would be to knock on the janitor's door and say to him 'If you would like a nice new barometer, I will give you this one if you tell me the height of this skyscraper'."
The student was Niels Bohr, the only Dane ever to win the Nobel Prize in physics.

Just follow the Tracks

Once, 3 men lost their way and got stranded in the middle of the forest. They didn’t know where they were and hence they decide that they will stay in the forest for some days until they find their way. So the next morning, one man went in search of some food. After many hours, he came back with a deer over his shoulder. The other two men were surprised to find how he got a deer with no weapons over which the man replied, “I find tracks, I follow tracks, and I got a deer". They both were slightly confused but decided to ignore and began to eat. A week later the second guy went in search of food and came back with an elk over his shoulder. The other two asked him how he managed to get the elk. He simply replied, "I find tracks, I follow tracks, and I got an elk". Now it was the turn of the third guy. He thought to himself “I'm going to get a better animal.” So the guy left but he did not return for a long time. Finally, after long hours of waiting, they saw him coming back. His clothes were torn with scrapes and bruises all over his body. He was bleeding. They asked him, “What happened?". He looked at them and replied, “I find tracks, I follow tracks, and I got hit by a train".

Funny stories can make for not just interesting read but can also be narrated to friends and family where all can have a hearty laugh.

Here is one such story:

One day, a CEO of a company threw a party for his executives at his mansion. At the back of the mansion, the CEO had a large swimming pool anyone had ever seen. The pool was, however, filled with hungry alligators. The CEO told his executives "I think an employee should be measured by courage. Today I am what I am because of my courage and this is what has made me a CEO. So this is a challenge to all of you present here: Who has the courage to dive into this pool, swim through these alligators, and make it to the other side? The one who will do it will win anything they desire - money, property, jewels, anything!"
All the employees laughed at the outrageous offer and proceeded to follow the CEO. Suddenly, they heard a loud splash. Everyone turned around and saw that the HR manager was in the pool, swimming for his life. He dodged the alligators left and right and made it to the edge of the pool. He pulled himself out just as a huge alligator was about to snap at his shoes. The flabbergasted CEO said, "You are amazing. I've never seen anything like this in my life. You are brave and surely beyond measure and I will give you anything you want. Tell me what I can do for you. The manager panted for breath, looked up and said, “Can you tell me who pushed me in the pool?"

Businessman story:

One day a businessman walked into a bank in Mumbai and asked for some loan assistance. He met a loan officer and told him that he was going to Europe on business tour for two weeks and needed to borrow Rs. 3, 00,000. The bank officer told the businessman that according to the bank policies, the bank will need some kind of security for such a loan. So the businessman handed over the keys to his car Porsche which was parked on the street right in front of the bank. After all the formalities, the bank agreed to accept the car as collateral for the loan. The bank employee drives the Porsche into the bank's underground garage and parks it there.
Two weeks later, the businessman returns and repays Rs. 3, 00,000 and the accumulated interest on the same which was Rs 900. Puzzled, the loan officer asked the business "We are very happy to have had your business, & the transaction too worked out smoothly, but I am a little confused. While you were away, we researched about you out and found that you are a multimillionaire, then why would you bother to borrow Rs. 3 lakhs? To this, the businessman chuckled and replied, "Where else in Mumbai can I park my car safely for two weeks for just Rs. 900?"

Another Funny Story
One day a man bought a horse. He taught him that when he said “hallelujah” the horse had to go and when he would say “Amen”, the horse would have to stop. The horse understood and sincerely obeyed his master. One day however, the man was riding his horse at an edge of a cliff. He was so scared that he forgot how to make the horse stop. The horse was galloping ahead. He became nervous and thought that this was the end of his life. Out of fear, he started praying but the horse was still not stopping. Just when he ended the prayer by saying “amen”, the horse stopped suddenly at the edge of the cliff. The man said “hallelujah” with a sigh of relief and off went the horse galloping ahead again!

And here is one more:
Mohan, Sam and Rahul were at a wedding celebration together and were sharing a large room on the top of a 90 story sky scraper. After a long day of celebrations they were shocked to hear that the elevators in their hotel were out of order and they would have to climb up 80 flights of stairs to get to their room. They were thinking what to do just when Sam said to Rahul “We can do this.
Remember our new motto “Yes we can.” Mohan Said “Yes, we can. Let's talk continuously till we reach our room.” To which Sam said “We can concentrate on something interesting and climb.” Rahul agreed and suggested “I can tell jokes for 30 flights, and Sam can sing songs for 30 flights since he is so good at it, and Mohan you can tell sad stories for the rest 30 floors. And as it went, at the 30th floor, Rahul finished his jokes and Sam began to sing. At the 60th floor Sam stopped singing and Mohan began to tell sad stories. "I will tell my saddest story first," he said. Rahul and Sam tried to concentrate and listen "I left the room keys in the car!"

BANK ROBBERY

MUST READ.. WORTH IT..!!
During a robbery in Guangzhou, China, the bank robber shouted to everyone in the bank: "Don't move. The money belongs to the State. Your life belongs to you."

Everyone in the bank laid down quietly. This is called "Mind Changing Concept” Changing the conventional way of thinking.

When a lady lay on the table provocatively, the robber shouted at her: "Please be civilized! This is a robbery and not a rape!"

This is called "Being Professional” Focus only on what you are trained to do!

When the bank robbers returned home, the younger robber (MBA-trained) told the older robber (who has only completed Year 6 in primary school): "Big brother, let's count how much we got."

The older robber rebutted and said: "You are very stupid. There is so much money it will take us a long time to count. Tonight, the TV news will tell us how much we robbed from the bank!"

This is called "Experience.” Nowadays, experience is more important than paper qualifications!

After the robbers had left, the bank manager told the bank supervisor to call the police quickly. But the supervisor said to him: "Wait! Let us take out $10 million from the bank for ourselves and add it to the $70 million that we have previously embezzled from the bank”.

This is called "Swim with the tide.” Converting an unfavorable situation to your advantage!

The supervisor says: "It will be good if there is a robbery every month."

This is called "Killing Boredom.” Personal Happiness is more important than your job.

The next day, the TV news reported that $100 million was taken from the bank. The robbers counted and counted and counted, but they could only count $20 million. The robbers were very angry and complained: "We risked our lives and only took $20 million. The bank manager took $80 million with a snap of his fingers. It looks like it is better to be educated than to be a thief!"

This is called "Knowledge is worth as much as gold!"

The bank manager was smiling and happy because his losses in the share market are now covered by this robbery.

This is called "Seizing the opportunity.” Daring to take risks!

So who are the real robbers here?

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles roll
ed into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full.. The students responded with a unanimous ‘yes.’

The professor then produced two Beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed..

‘Now,’ said the professor as the laughter subsided, ‘I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things—-your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions—-and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.. The sand is everything else—-the small stuff.

‘If you put the sand into the jar first,’ he continued, ‘there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

Spend time with your children. Spend time with your parents. Visit with grandparents. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and mow the lawn.

Take care of the golf balls first—-the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the Beer represented. The professor smiled and said, ‘I’m glad you asked.’ The Beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of Beers with a friend.

The Exact Science of Matrimony (By O. Henry)

Jeff Peters and Andy Tucker could never be trusted.  One day, the two men decided to open a marriage business to make some quick and easy money.  The first thing they did was to write an advertisement to be published in newspapers.  Their advertisement read like this:
"A charming widow, beautiful and home-loving, would like to remarry.  She is only thirty-two years old.  She has three thousand dollars in cash and owns valuable property in the country.  She would like a poor man with a loving heart.  No objection to an older man or to one who is not good-looking.  But he needs to be faithful and true, can take care of property and invest money with good judgment.  Give address, with details about yourself.  Signed: Lonely, care of Peters and Tucker, agents, Cairo, Illinois."
When they finished writing the ad, Jeff Peters said to Andy Tucker: "So far, so good.  And now, where is the lady?"
Andy gave Jeff an unhappy look.  "What does a marriage advertisement have to do with a lady?" he asked.
"Now listen," Jeff answered.  "You know my rule, Andy.  In all illegal activities, we must obey the law, in every detail.  Something offered for sale must exist.  It must be seen.  You must be able to produce it.  That is how I have kept out of trouble with the police.  Now, for this business to work, we must be able to produce a charming widow, with or without the beauty, as advertised."
"Well," said Andy, after thinking it over, "it might be better, if the United States Post Office should decide to investigate our marriage agency.  But where can you hope to find a widow who would waste her time on a marriage proposal that has no marriage in it?"
Jeff said that he knew just such a woman.
"An old friend of mine, Zeke Trotter," he said, "used to work in a tent show.  He made his wife a widow by drinking too much of the wrong kind of alcohol.  I used to stop at their house often.  I think we can get her to work with us."
Missus Zeke Trotter lived in a small town not far away.  Jeff Peters went out to see her.  She was not beautiful and not so young.  But she seemed all right to Jeff.
"Is this an honest deal you are putting on, Mister Peters?" she asked when he told her what he wanted.
"Missus Trotter," said Jeff, "three thousand men will seek to marry you to get your money and property.  What are they prepared to give in exchange?  Nothing!  Nothing but the bones of a lazy, dishonest, good-for-nothing fortune-seeker.  We will teach them something.  This will be a great moral campaign.  Does that satisfy you?"
"It does, Mister Peters," she said.  "But what will my duties be?  Do I have to personally reject these three thousand good-for-nothings you speak of?  Or can I throw them out in bunches?"
Jeff explained that her job would be easy.  She would live in a quiet hotel and have no work to do.  He and Andy would take care of all letters and the business end of the plot.  But he warned her that some of the men might come to see her in person.  Then, she would have to meet them face-to-face and reject them.  She would be paid twenty-five dollars a week and hotel costs.
"Give me five minutes to get ready," Missus Trotter said.  "Then you can start paying me."
So Jeff took her to the city and put her in a hotel far enough from Jeff and Andy's place to cause no suspicion.
Jeff Peters and Andy Tucker were now ready to catch a few fish on the hook.  They placed their advertisement in newspapers across the country.  They put two thousand dollars in a bank in Missus Trotter's name.  They gave her the bank book to show if anyone questioned the honesty of their marriage agency.  They were sure that Missus Trotter could be trusted and that it was safe to leave the money in her name.
Their ad in the newspapers started a flood of letters – more than one hundred a day.  Jeff and Andy worked twelve hours a day answering them.  Most of the men wrote that they had lost their jobs.  The world misunderstood them.  But they were full of love and other good qualities.
Jeff and Andy answered every letter with high praise for the writer.  They asked the men to send a photograph and more details.  And they told them to include two dollars to cover the cost of giving the second letter to the charming widow.
Almost all the men sent in the two dollars requested.  It seemed to be an easy business.  Still, Andy and Jeff often spoke about the trouble of cutting open envelopes and taking the money out.
A few of the men came in person.  Jeff and Andy sent them to Missus Trotter and she did the rest.  Soon, Jeff and Andy were receiving about two hundred dollars a day.  One day, a federal postal inspector came by.  But Jeff satisfied him that they were not breaking the law.
After about three months, Jeff and Andy had collected more than five thousand dollars, and they decided it was time to stop.  Some people were beginning to question their honesty.  And, Missus Trotter seemed to have grown tired of her job.  Too many men had come to see her and she did not like that.
Jeff went to Missus Trotter's hotel to pay her what she was owed, and to say goodbye.  He also wanted her to repay the two thousand dollars that was put into her bank account.
When Jeff walked into the room she was crying, like a child who did not want to go to school.
"Now, now," he said. "What's it all about?  Somebody hurt you?  Are you getting homesick?"
"No, Mister Peters," she said.  "I'll tell you.  You were always a good friend of my husband Zeke.  Mister Peters, I am in love.  I just love a man so hard I can't bear not to get him.  He's just the kind I've always had in mind."
"Then take him," said Jeff.  "Does he feel the same way about you?"
"He does," Missus Trotter answered.  "But there is a problem.  He is one of the men who have been coming to see me in answer to your advertisement.  And he will not marry me unless I give him the two thousand dollars.  His name is William Wilkinson."
Jeff felt sorry for her.  He said he would be glad to let her give the two thousand dollars to Mister Wilkinson, so that she could be happy.  But he said he had to talk to his partner about it.
Jeff returned to his hotel and discussed it with Andy.
"I was expecting something like this," Andy said.  "You can't trust a woman to stick with you in any plan that involves her emotions."
Jeff said it was a sad thing to think that they were the cause of the breaking of a woman's heart.  Andy agreed with him.
"I'll tell you what I am willing to do," said Andy.  "Jeff, you have always been a man of a soft and generous heart.  Perhaps I have been too hard and worldly and suspicious.  For once, I will meet you half-way.  Go to Missus Trotter.  Tell her to take the two thousand dollars out of the bank and give it to this Wilkinson fellow and be happy."
Jeff shook Andy's hand for a long time.  Then he went back to Missus Trotter.  She cried as hard for joy as she had done for sorrow.
Two days later, Jeff and Andy prepared to leave town.
"Wouldn't you like to go meet Missus Trotter once before we leave?" Jeff asked Andy.  "She'd like to express her thanks to you."
"Why, I guess not," Andy said.  "I think we should hurry and catch the train."
Jeff was putting all the money they had received in a belt he tied around his body.  Then Andy took a large amount of money out of his pocket and asked Jeff to put it together with the other money.
"What's this?" Jeff asked.
"It's Missus Trotter's two thousand dollars," said Andy.
"How do you come to have it?" Jeff asked.
"Missus Trotter gave it to me," Andy answered. "I have been calling on her three nights a week for more than a month."
"Then you are William Wilkinson?" Jeff asked.
"I was," Andy said.

Old Grandpa

A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in- law, and four-year old grandson. The old man’s hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered. The family ate together at the table. But the elderly grandfather’ s shaky hands and failing sight made eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped, the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth.

The son and daughter-in- law became irritated with the mess. “We must do something about Grandfather, ” said the son. “I’ve had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor.” So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner. Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl. When the family glanced in Grandfather’ s direction, sometimes he had a tear in his eye as he sat alone. Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food. The four-year-old watched it all in silence.

One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor. He asked the child sweetly, “What are you making” Just as sweetly, the boy responded, “Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and Mama to eat your food in when I grow up.” The four-year-old smiled and went back to work. The words so struck the parents that they were speechless. Then tears started to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done.

That evening the husband took Grandfather’ s hand and gently led him back to the family table. For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family. And for some reason, neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled.

Moral: Children are remarkably perceptive. Their eyes ever observe, their ears ever listen, and their minds ever process the messages they absorb. If they see us patiently provide a happy home atmosphere for family members, they will imitate that attitude for the rest of their lives. The wise parent realizes that every day the building blocks are being laid for the child’s future. Let’s be wise builders and role models. Because Children are our future. Life is about people connecting with people, and making a positive difference. Take care of yourself, … and those you love, ... today, ... and everyday!

COUNTING APPLES

A teacher teaching Maths to seven-year-old Laiq asked him, “If I give you one apple and one apple and one apple, how many apples will you have?”
Within a few seconds Laiq replied confidently, “Four!”
The dismayed teacher was expecting an effortless correct answer, three. She was disappointed. “Maybe the child did not listen properly.” – she thought.
She repeated, “Laiq, listen carefully. If I give you one apple and one apple and one apple, how many apples will you have?”
Laiq had seen the disappointment on his teacher’s face. He calculated again on his fingers. But within him he was also searching for the answer that will make the teacher happy. His search for the answer was not for the correct one, but the one that will make his teacher happy.
This time hesitatingly he replied, “Four.”
The disappointment stayed on the teacher’s face. She remembered that Laiq liked strawberries.
She thought maybe he doesn’t like apples and that is making him loose focus.
This time with an exaggerated excitement and twinkling in her eyes she asked, “If I give you one strawberry and one strawberry and one strawberry, then how many you will have?”
Seeing the teacher happy, young Laiq calculated on his fingers again. There was no pressure on him, but a little on the teacher. She wanted her new approach to succeed.
With a hesitating smile young Laiq replied, “Three?”
The teacher now had a victorious smile. Her approach had succeeded. She wanted to congratulate herself.
But one last thing remained. Once again she asked him, “Now if I give you one apple and one apple and one more apple how many will you have?”
Promptly Laiq answered, “Four!”
The teacher was aghast. “How Laiq, how?” she demanded in a little stern and irritated voice.
In a voice that was low and hesitating young Laiq replied, “Because I already have one apple in my bag.”

very   touching....................

A doctor entered the hospital in hurry after being called in for an urgent surgery. He answered the call asap, changed his clothes & went directly to the surgery block. He found the boy’s father pacing in the hall waiting for the doctor. On seeing him, the dad yelled:
“Why did U take all this time to come? Don’t U know that my son’s life is in danger? Don’t U have any sense of responsibility?”

Th…e doctor smiled & said:
“I am sorry, I wasn’t in the hospital & I came as fast as I could after receiving the call…… And now, I wish you’d calm down so that I can do my work”

“Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now, would U calm down? If your own son dies now what will U do??” said the father angrily

The doctor smiled again & replied: “I will say what Job said in the Holy Book “From dust we came & to dust we return, blessed be the name of God”. Doctors cannot prolong lives. Go & intercede for your son, we will do our best by God’s grace”

“Giving advises when we’re not concerned is so easy” Murmured the father.

The surgery took some hours after which the doctor went out happy,
“Thank goodness!, your son is saved!” And without waiting for the father’s reply he carried on his way running. “If U have any question, ask the nurse!!”

“Why is he so arrogant? He couldn’t wait some minutes so that I ask about my son’s state” Commented the father when seeing the nurse minutes after the doctor left.

The nurse answered, tears coming down her face: “His son died yesterday in a road accident, he was in the burial when we called him for your son’s surgery. And now that he saved your son’s life, he left running to finish his son’s burial.”

Moral-Never judge anyone….. because U never know how their life is & what they’re going through”

LEARNING TO LIVE WITHOUT RECOGNITION IS A SKILL!

There was a farmer who collected horses; he only needed one more breed to complete his collection. One day, he found out that his neighbor had the particular horse breed he needed. So, he constantly bothered his neighbor until he sold it to him. A month later, the horse became ill and he called the veterinarian, who said:

- Well, your horse has a virus. He must take this medicine for three days. I'll come back on the 3rd day and if he's not better, we're going to have to put him down.

Nearby, the pig listened closely to their conversation.

The next day, they gave him the medicine and left. The pig approached the horse and said:

- Be strong, my friend. Get up or else they're going to put you to sleep! On the second day, they gave him the medicine and left. The pig came back and said:

- Come on buddy, get up or else you're going to die! Come on, I'll help you get up. Let's go! One, two, three...

On the third day, they came to give him the medicine and the vet said:

- Unfortunately, we're going to have to put him down tomorrow. Otherwise, the virus might spread and infect the other horses.

After they left, the pig approached the horse and said:

- Listen pal, it's now or never! Get up, come on! Have courage! Come on! Get up! Get up! That's it, slowly! Great! Come on, one, two, three... Good, good. Now faster, come on.... Fantastic! Run, run more! Yes! Yay! Yes! You did it, you're a champion!!!

All of a sudden, the owner came back, saw the horse running in the field and began shouting:

- It's a miracle! My horse is cured. This deserves a party. Let's kill the pig!

Points for reflection: this often happens in the workplace. Nobody truly knows which employee actually deserves the merit of success, or who's actually contributing the necessary support to make things happen.

LEARNING TO LIVE WITHOUT RECOGNITION IS A SKILL!

This girl is a keeper!!!!

It happened at a New York Airport. This is hilarious. I
wish I had the guts of this girl. An award should go to the United
Airlines gate agent in New York for being smart and funny, while
making her point, when confronted with a passenger who probably
deserved to fly as cargo. For all of you out there who have had to
deal with an irate customer, this one is for you.

A crowded United Airlines flight was canceled. A
single agent was re-booking a long line of inconvenienced travelers.

Suddenly, an angry passenger pushed his way to the desk. He slapped his ticket on the counter and said, "I HAVE to be on this flight and it has to be FIRST CLASS."

The agent replied, "I'm sorry, sir. I'll be happy to try
to help you, but I've got to help these folks first; and then I'm
sure we'll be able to work something out."

The passenger was unimpressed. He asked loudly, so that
the passengers behind him could hear, "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO I AM?"

Without hesitating, the agent smiled and grabbed her
public address microphone. "May I have your attention, please?", she began, her voice heard clearly throughout the terminal. "We have a passenger here at Gate 14 WHO DOES NOT KNOW WHO HE IS. If anyone can help him with his identity, please come to Gate 14".

With the folks behind him in line laughing hysterically,
the man glared at the United Airlines agent, gritted his teeth, and said, "F*** You!"

Without flinching, she smiled and said, "I'm sorry sir,
you'll have to get in line for that, too."

Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to
dance in the rain.........

Once upon a time in a village, a man announced to
the villagers that he would buy monkeys for Rs 10. The
villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around,
went out to the forest and started catching
 them..
The man bought thousands at Rs 10 and as supply started
to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort.
He further announced that he would now buy at
Rs20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and
 they started catching monkeys again.
Soon the supply diminished even further and people started
 going back to their farms.
The offer rate increased to Rs 25 and the supply of
monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even
see a monkey, let alone catch it!
The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at Rs
 50!
However, since he had to go to the city on some business,
his assistant would now buy on behalf of him.
In the absence of the man, the assistant told the
villagers. Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the
man has collected. I will sell them to you at Rs
35 and when the man returns from the city, you can
sell it to him for Rs 50.
" The villagers squeezed up with all their savings and bought
 all the monkeys.
Then they never saw the man nor his assistant, only
 monkeys everywhere!

A MUST Read.

"Late last year, two young men decided to live a month of their lives on the income of an average poor Indian. One of them, Tushar, the son of a police officer in Haryana, studied at the University of Pennsylvania and worked for three years as an investment banker in the US and Singapore. The other, Matt, migrated as a teenager to the States with his parents, and studied in MIT. Both decided at different points to return to India, joined the UID Project in Bengaluru, came to share a flat, and became close friends.

The idea suddenly struck them one day. Both had returned to India in the vague hope that they could be of use to their country. But they knew the people of this land so little. Tushar suggested one evening — “Let us try to understand an ‘average Indian', by living on an ‘average income'.” His friend Matt was immediately captured by the idea. They began a journey which would change them forever.

To begin with, what was the average income of an Indian? They calculated that India's Mean National Income was Rs. 4,500 a month, or Rs. 150 a day. Globally people spend about a third of their incomes on rent. Excluding rent, they decided to spend Rs. 100 each a day. They realised that this did not make them poor, only average. Seventy-five per cent Indians live on less than this average.

The young men moved into the tiny apartment of their domestic help, much to her bemusement. What changed for them was that they spent a large part of their day planning and organising their food. Eating out was out of the question; even dhabas were too expensive. Milk and yoghurt were expensive and therefore used sparingly, meat was out of bounds, as were processed food like bread. No ghee or butter, only a little refined oil. Both are passionate cooks with healthy appetites. They found soy nuggets a wonder food — affordable and high on proteins, and worked on many recipes. Parle G biscuits again were cheap: 25 paise for 27 calories! They innovated a dessert of fried banana on biscuits. It was their treat each day.

Living on Rs.100 made the circle of their life much smaller. They found that they could not afford to travel by bus more than five km in a day. If they needed to go further, they could only walk. They could afford electricity only five or six hours a day, therefore sparingly used lights and fans. They needed also to charge their mobiles and computers. One Lifebuoy soap cut into two. They passed by shops, gazing at things they could not buy. They could not afford the movies, and hoped they would not fall ill.

However, the bigger challenge remained. Could they live on Rs. 32, the official poverty line, which had become controversial after India's Planning Commission informed the Supreme Court that this was the poverty line for cities (for villages it was even lower, at Rs. 26 per person per day)?

For this, they decided to go to Matt's ancestral village Karucachal in Kerala, and live on Rs. 26. They ate parboiled rice, a tuber and banana and drank black tea: a balanced diet was impossible on the Rs. 18 a day which their briefly adopted ‘poverty' permitted. They found themselves thinking of food the whole day. They walked long distances, and saved money even on soap to wash their clothes. They could not afford communication, by mobile and internet. It would have been a disaster if they fell ill. For the two 26-year-olds, the experience of ‘official poverty' was harrowing.

Yet, when their experiment ended with Deepavali, they wrote to their friends: “Wish we could tell you that we are happy to have our ‘normal' lives back. Wish we could say that our sumptuous celebratory feast two nights ago was as satisfying as we had been hoping for throughout our experiment. It probably was one of the best meals we've ever had, packed with massive amounts of love from our hosts. However, each bite was a sad reminder of the harsh reality that there are 400 million people in our country for whom such a meal will remain a dream for quite some time. That we can move on to our comfortable life, but they remain in the battlefield of survival — a life of tough choices and tall constraints. A life where freedom means little and hunger is plenty...

It disturbs us to spend money on most of the things that we now consider excesses. Do we really need that hair product or that branded cologne? Is dining out at expensive restaurants necessary for a happy weekend? At a larger level, do we deserve all the riches we have around us? Is it just plain luck that we were born into circumstances that allowed us to build a life of comfort? What makes the other half any less deserving of many of these material possessions, (which many of us consider essential) or, more importantly, tools for self-development (education) or self-preservation (healthcare)?

We don't know the answers to these questions. But we do know the feeling of guilt that is with us now. Guilt that is compounded by the love and generosity we got from people who live on the other side, despite their tough lives. We may have treated them as strangers all our lives, but they surely didn't treat us as that way...”

So what did these two friends learn from their brief encounter with poverty? That hunger can make you angry. That a food law which guarantees adequate nutrition to all is essential. That poverty does not allow you to realise even modest dreams. And above all — in Matt's words — that empathy is essential for democracy."

Stochastic Probability Theory - Pregnant Deer Scenario
Consider this scenario: In a remote forest, a pregnant deer is about to give birth to a baby. It finds a remote grass field near by a river and slowly goes there thinking it would be safe. As she moves slowly, she gets labor pain…. at the same moment, dark clouds gather around that area and lightning starts a forest fire. Turning left she sees a hunter who is aiming an arrow from a distance. As she tries to move towards right, she spots a hungry lion approaching towards her.

Stochastic Probability Theory - Pregnant Deer Scenario
What can the pregnant deer do ….as she is already under labor pain ?
…
…
…
What do you think will happen ?
Will the deer survive ?
Will it give birth to a fawn ?
Will the fawn survive ? or
Will everything be burnt by the forest fire ?
…
…
…
…

That particular moment ?
…
…
…

Can the deer go left ? – Hunter’s arrow is pointing

Can she go right ? – Hungry male lion approaching

Can she move up ? – Forest fire

Can she move down ? – Fierce river

Answer: She does nothing. She just focuses on giving birth to a new LIFE.
The sequence of events that happens at that fraction of a second (moment) are as follows:
In a spur of MOMENT …a lightning strikes (already it is cloudy ) and blinds the eyes of the Hunter. At that MOMENT, he releases the arrow missing and zipping past the deer. At that MOMENT the arrow hits and injures the lion badly. At that MOMENT, it starts to rain heavily and puts out the forest fire. At that next MOMENT, the deer gives birth to a healthy fawn.
In our life, it’s our MOMENT of CHOICE and we all have to deal with such negative thoughts from all sides always. Some thoughts are so powerful they overpower us and makes us clueless. Let us not decide anything in a hurry. Let’s think of ourselves as the pregnant deer with the ultimate happy ending. Anything can happen in a MOMENT in this life. If you are religious, superstitious, atheist, agnostic… or whatever… you can attribute this MOMENT as divine intervention, faith, sudden luck, chance (serendipity), coincidence… or a simple ‘don’t know’. We all feel the same. But, whatever one may call it, I would see the priority of the deer in that given moment was to giving birth to a baby…. because LIFE IS PRECIOUS.
Hence, whether you are deer or a human, keep that faith and hope within you always. :) :) :)

Where there is a will there is a way

Sujata Burla's life was shattered when on a pilgrimage to Shirdi, she met with a serious accident in the year 2001.

She survived but life dealt a cruel blow when the doctors and physiotherapists treating her told her she could not walk for the rest of her life. The accident had turned her into a paraplegic. It meant Sujata was immobile below the shoulders at the early age 21.
Before the accident, Sujata had many friends but they all ran away after the accident. They were all false friends who only used to go where there would be money, success and happiness. She felt alone and depressed.

In another tragedy, her father expired in March 2004. Not one to be easily cowed down by her circumstances, she wanted to be independent financially, physically and mentally.

She soon realized that she needed to be financially independent first . She started working with her sister, who is a fashion designer, and then started a textile workshop on her own but the workers took advantage of her physical disability and she lost money.

Sujata realized that if at all she had to succeed in life she would have to do something for which she did not have to depend on anybody

Then she hit upon the idea of working in the stock market. She learnt typing and working on a computer and laptop. She spent another year learning the nitty gritty of stock market operations .
Now she trades like a pro and earns anywhere between Rs 200,000 and Rs 250,000 every month

Financial independence is what she strove for and that is exactly what she has got through sheer determination and discipline.

This shows that human will power and determination has no limit the only thing required is passion, persistence and hard work.

FOR ALL TEACHERS

A Profound Answer

The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life.

One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued, "What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?"

To stress his point he said to another guest; "You're a teacher, Bonnie. Be honest. What do you make?"

Bonnie, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, "You want to know what I make?" (She paused for a second, then began...)

"Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could.

"I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when their parents can't make them sit for 5 without an I Pod, Game Cube or movie rental.

"You want to know what I make?" (She paused again and looked at each and every person at the table)

"I make kids wonder.

"I make them question.

"I make them apologize and mean it.

"I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions.

"I teach them to write and then I make them write. Keyboarding isn't everything.

"I make them read, read, read.

"I make them show all their work in math. They use their God given brain, not the man-made calculator.

"I make my students from other countries learn everything they need to know about English while preserving their unique cultural identity.

"I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe.

"Finally, I make them understand that if they use the gifts they were given, work hard, and follow their hearts, they can succeed in life." (Bonnie paused one last time and then continued.)

"Then, when people try to judge me by what I make, with me knowing money isn't everything, I can hold my head up high and pay no attention because they are ignorant. You want to know what I make? I MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

"What do you make Mr. CEO?"

His jaw dropped, he went silent.

THIS IS WORTH SENDING TO EVERY TEACHER, EVERY CEO, EVERY PERSON YOU KNOW.

Even all your personal teachers like mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, coaches and your spiritual leaders/teachers.

A truly profound answer!!!

Teaching is... the profession that makes all other professions possible!

 grandpa

Dr. Abdul Kalam's Speech in Hyderabad

Hi,
      Greetings for the day...
Here is an article on the speech of Dr. Abdul Kalam received
from another mailing list.
This article is not only inspiring but has the power to change
one. I request each member to go through this mail spending a few
minutes of yours and to shape your mind to reach a BETTER---BEST
INDIA...

Dr. Abdul Kalam's Speech in Hyderabad

*Please read this article by giving 10 minutes from your busy life.
Really good.... ** *

* The President of India DR. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam 's Speech in Hyderabad . *

Why is the media here so negative?
Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our
achievements? We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing
success stories but we refuse acknowledge them---  Why?
We are the first in milk production.
We are number one in Remote sensing satellites.
We are the second largest producer of wheat.
We are the second largest producer of rice.
Look at Dr. Sudarshan , he has transferred the tribal village into a
self-sustaining, self-driving unit.

There are millions of such achievements but our media is only obsessed
in the bad news and failures and disasters.

I was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was
the day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken
place. The Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had
the picture of a  Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed
his desert into an orchid and a granary. It was this inspiring picture
that everyone woke up to. The gory details of killings, bombardments,
deaths, were inside in the newspaper, buried among other news.

In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism, crime.

Why are we so NEGATIVE?

Another question: Why are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreign
things? We want foreign T. Vs, we want foreign shirts. We want foreign
technology.

Why this obsession with everything imported. Do we not realize that
self-respect comes with self-reliance? I was in Hyderabad giving this
lecture, when a 14 year old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her
what her goal in life is. She replied: I want to live in a developed
India . For her, you and I will have to build this developed India .
You must proclaim. India is not an under-developed nation; it is a
highly developed nation.

Do you have 10 minutes? Allow me to come back with a vengeance.

Got 10 minutes for your country? If yes, then read; otherwise, choice is yours.
YOU say that our government is inefficient.
YOU say that our laws are too old.
YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage.
YOU say that the phones don't work, the railways are a joke,
The airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination.
YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits.

YOU say, say and say. What do YOU do about it?

Take a person on his way to Singapore . Give him a name - YOURS. Give
him aface - YOURS. YOU walk out of the airport and you are at your
International best. In Singapore you don't throw cigarette butts on
the roads or eat in the stores.... YOU are as proud of their
Underground links as they are. You pay $5 (approx. Rs. 60) to drive
through Orchard Road (equivalent of Mahim Causeway or Pedder Road )
between 5 PM and 8 PM. YOU come back to the parking lot to punch your
parking ticket if you have over stayed in a restaurant or a shopping
mall irrespective of your status identity... In Singapore you don't
say anything, DO YOU?

YOU wouldn't dare to eat in public during Ramadan, in Dubai .
YOU would not dare to go out without your head covered in Jeddah .
YOU would not dare to buy an employee of the telephone exchange in
London at 10 pounds ( Rs.650) a month to, 'see to it that my STD and
ISD calls are billed to someone else.'
YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph (88 km/h) in Washington and
then tell the traffic cop,'Jaanta hai main kaun hoon (Do you know who
I am?). I am so and so's son. Take your two bucks and get lost.'
YOU wouldn't chuck an empty coconut shell anywhere other than the
garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and New
Zealand .
Why don't YOU spit Paan on the streets of Tokyo ? Why don't YOU use
examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in Boston ??? We are
still  talking of the same YOU.
YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign system in other countries
but cannot in your own. You who will throw papers and cigarettes on
the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be an involved
and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot you be the
same here in India ?

Once in an interview, the famous Ex-municipal commissioner of Bombay ,
Mr. Tinaikar , had a point to make. 'Rich people's dogs are walked on
the streets to leave their affluent droppings all over the place,' he
said. 'And then the same people turn around to criticize and blame the
authorities for inefficiency and dirty pavements. What do they expect
the
officers to do? Go down with a broom every time their dog feels the
pressure in his bowels? In America every dog owner has to clean up
after his pet has done the job. Same in Japan . Will the Indian
citizen do that here?' He's right. We go to the polls to choose a
government and after that forfeit all responsibility.

We sit back wanting to be pampered and expect the government to do
everything for us whilst our contribution is totally negative. We
expect the government to clean up but we are not going to stop
chucking garbage all over the place nor are we going to stop to pick a
up a stray piece of paper and throw it in the bin.
We expect the railways to provide clean bathrooms but we are not going
to learn the proper use of bathrooms.
We want Indian Airlines and Air India to provide the best of food and
toiletries but we are not going to stop pilfering at the least
opportunity.
This applies even to the staff who is known not to pass on the service
to the public. When it comes to burning social issues like those
related towomen, dowry, girl child! and others, we make loud drawing
room protestations and continue to do the reverse at home. Our excuse?
'It's the whole system which has to change, how will it matter if I
alone forego my sons' rights to a dowry.' So who's going to change the
system? What does a system consist of ? Very conveniently for us it
consists of our neighbours, other households, other cities, other
communities and the government. But definitely not me and YOU.
When it comes to us actually making a positive contribution to the
system we lock ourselves along with our families into a safe cocoon
and look into the distance at countries far away and wait for a
Mr.Clean to come along & work miracles for us with a majestic sweep of
his hand or we leave the country and run away. Like lazy cowards
hounded by our fears we run to America to bask in their glory and
praise their system. When New York becomes insecure we run to England
. When England experiences unemployment, we take the next flight out
to the Gulf. When the Gulf is war struck, we demand to be rescued and
brought home by the Indian government. Everybody is out to abuse and
rape the country. Nobody thinks of feeding the system. Our conscience
is mortgaged to money.

Dear Indians, The article is highly thought inductive, calls for a
greatdeal of introspection and pricks one's conscience too.... I am
echoing J. F. Kennedy 's words to his fellow Americans to relate to
Indians.....

'ASK WHAT WE CAN DO FOR INDIA
AND DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO MAKE INDIA
WHAT AMERICA AND OTHER WESTERN COUNTRIES ARE TODAY'

Lets do what India needs from us.

Forward this mail to each Indian for a change instead of sending Jokes
or junk mails.

Thank you,

vikram aur betaal modern story

Let's read the story fully and truly introspect and, if
convinced, forward this to as many people as possible to create a
"wave" of public
opinion across India!!

Once there lived an old and pious man, renowned for his honesty. One
day his neighbor, a rich merchant comes to him with a request. The
merchant was leaving
on a voyage and wants the old man to safeguard his wealth, until his
return. The old man agrees and with God as witness promises to protect
and safeguard
the merchant's wealth.

The old man then entrusts the safe keep of the merchant's wealth to
his son, from whom he takes an oath of propriety and honesty. Slowly
the son starts
dipping into the merchants wealth, people notice this and warn the old
man of the son's misdeeds. The old man calls his son asks him to
explain, he also
reminds him of his oath on following the right path. The son rubbishes
the accusations as rumors and the idle gossip of jealous people, who
could bear
to see his prosperity.

The old man accepts the son's explanation and things go on as before.

The merchant returns and demands his wealth. The old man calls his
son, who hands over a quarter of the merchant's wealth saying that is
all there was.
The merchant realizing that he has been cheated approaches the King.
The King listens to the merchant's complaint and summons the old man.
The old man
comes to the court with his son and handing him over to the King says
"your majesty, the merchant is right. My son has confessed to the
crime. Please punish
him."

The king has the son flogged and imprisoned. He then praises the old
mans honesty and dismisses the case. But the merchant demands
punishment for the old
man saying, "I have still not received justice.I had entrusted my
wealth to the old man which he swore by God to safeguard. The old
man's integrity is
intact, but what of me, I have been robbed of my life's savings, and
made a pauper. It was the old man's decision to entrust my wealth the
son for safe
keeping. As far as I am concerned the old man is the culprit, and
should be punished.

The king is astounded by this demand. The old man, was neither a party
to the theft nor did he benefit from it. In fact, he had sent his son
to jail. Yet,
the merchant was asking for the old man's punishment.

The Vetaal asks Vikramaditya, "What should be the Kings decision."

Vikramaditya's replies, "Though the old man is innocent of the actual
theft, he is guilty of dereliction of duty. The son's crime was a
straight forward
one, the old man's was a graver crime. He did nothing to protect the
merchant's wealth. Far from being vigilant he failed to take action
even when he was
warned of his son's misdeeds. Because of his laxity the merchant is
condemned to a life of penury. He should be punished."

India 2010, Dr. Manmohan Singh, esteemed economist, former Governor of
RBI, Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, former Finance Minister,
a man whose
personal ethics and integrity are unblemished, takes oath to protect
and safeguard the Nation and its assets. He appoints Raja, as hisCabinet Minister
for IT & Telecom.

Raja the Telecom Minister has with him keys to the 2G spectrum a
finite and precious National asset. Raja flouts all rules of propriety
and transparency
in Government, and in violation of his oath of office, sells the
spectrum at a throw away price of Rs.1651 crore.

 1. DoT with Raja at its helm issues an astounding 120 UAS licenses in
a single day, January 10, 2008. A feat unsurpassed in the history of
Government
anywhere in the world. Suspiciously 85 of these licenses are issued to
companies which suppressed facts, disclosed incomplete
 information and submitted fictitious documents.

 2. In issuing these licenses neither the High Powered Telecom
Commission, which was expressly set up for this nor the Finance
Ministry or the Ministry
of Law and Justice are consulted. Vital decisions are taken without
being deliberated and discussed at inter ministerial forums.

3. In sharp deviation of business practice, the cut off date for
receiving applications gets advanced from Oct 1, 2007 to Sept 25,
2007, violating all
canons of fair play and ethics.

4. Real estate companies which till date of application had no
interest in Telecom are allotted Licenses and spectrum ahead of
genuine applicants. These
then go on to reap windfalls from foreign players by selling equity.

Unlike the story, this heist of a precious national asset is carried
out in full view of Dr. Manmohan Singh and his cabinet
colleagues.Newspapers across
the country cry out at this outrage in front page headlines.

The Indian Constitution grants the Prime Minister absolute power in
running the country. He is the head of the Government and the Union
Cabinet functions
at his pleasure. As per the Transaction of Business Rules the Prime
Minister has the unrestricted right to demand and get any file, any
record from any
Ministry. Dr. Man Mohan Singh could have at any time stopped this
heist of a National asset, yet he chose to remain silent. The
Minister's failure to exercise
his constitutional rights has caused irreparable loss to the Nation.

Dr. Singh did not profit personally from Raja's shenigans, but his
failure to act, to honor the oath of office, to protect and safeguard
the nation and
its wealth is unforgivable. Like the old man, he has sacked Raja from
his ministerial berth, but does his culpability end there.

The people of India had entrusted their faith and the future of the
Nation in Dr. Manmohan Singh, believing him to be a man of integrity
and honesty, and
not to Raja. Does dismissing Raja absolve Dr. Singh or like the old
man is he guilty of dereliction of duty and failure to safeguard the
Nation and its
citizens. Does he deserve punishment?

It is for the Indian citizen to decide, whether Dr. Singh is guilty.

VERY INTERESTING AND THOUGHT PROVOKING

One day all the employees reached the office and they saw a big advice
on the door on which it was written:
"Yesterday the person who has been hindering your growth in this company
passed away. We invite you to join the funeral in the room that has been
prepared in the gym".

In the beginning, they all got sad for the death of one of their
colleagues, but after a while they started getting curious to know who
was that man who hindered the growth of his colleagues and the company
itself.

The excitement in the gym was such that security agents were ordered to
control the crowd within the room.

The more people reached the coffin, the more the excitement heated up.
Everyone thought: "Who is this guy who was hindering my progress? Well,
at least he died!".

One by one the thrilled employees got closer to the coffin, and when
they looked inside it they suddenly became speechless. They stood nearby
the coffin, shocked and in silence, as if someone had touched the
deepest part of their soul.

There was a mirror inside the coffin: everyone who looked inside it
could see himself.

There was also a sign next to the mirror that said:
"There is only one person who is capable to set limits to your growth:
it is YOU.
You are the only person who can revolutionize your life. You are the
only person who can influence your happiness, your realization and your
success. You are the only person who can help yourself.

Your life does not change when your boss changes, when your friends
change, when your parents change, when your partner changes, when your
company changes. Your life changes when YOU change, when you go beyond
your limiting beliefs, when you realize that you are the only one
responsible for your life.

"The most important relationship you can have, is the one you have with
yourself"

Examine yourself, watch yourself. Don't be afraid of difficulties,
impossibilities and losses: be a winner, build yourself and your
reality.

The world is like a mirror: it gives back to anyone the reflection of
the thoughts in which one has strongly believed.

The world and your reality are like mirrors laying in a coffin, which
show to any individual the death of his divine capability to imagine and
create his happiness and his success.

ncredible Health Benefits of Fasting -

Fasting isn't just done for an important religious endeavor or for
losing weight. Fasting is also equally important and beneficial to
increase overall health.
In fact, we often see the word "fasting" in health magazines. It seems
that fasting is becoming widely practiced nowadays especially among
Japanese people.

There are many kinds of fasting—morning fast, half-day fast, one day
fast, one week fast, etc.
Although there are hundreds of magazines, literatures, and novels,
regarding fasting, they are all somewhat difficult to follow or
understand for the common people.
During my school days, I was taught to eat the right way and at the
appropriate time three times a day. The question is, is it really
right to eat three times a day? Many white-collars and businessmen
with busy schedules, as well as housewives, often skip breakfast. Is
this considered fasting? Does this give us any health benefits?
In this article, we'll tell you how fasting should be practiced
properly and simply, and how it benefits your health.
"Fasting" in this context doesn't mean not eating at all. It means
skipping meals, or restricting or eliminating some foods in your diet.

Note: Water or juice must be taken during fasting to prevent dehydration.
## How Fasting Burns Fat
When you skip a meal (fasting), or when you lower your carbohydrate
intake, our body activates a vital source of energy called "ketone
bodies" in the brain and heart.
The ketone bodies are by-products created by the liver by breaking
down fatty acids when no carbohydrates or glucose are available. It
also helps make your body in fat-burning mode.

Too much ketone bodies can be problematic—when the level of ketone
bodies in the body is too high, "ketoacidosis" occurs. In some cases,
this can lead to loss of consciousness.
Although making use of ketone bodies to burn fat makes it highly
effective in preventing obesity, the long-term effects of fasting are
not actually known well.
Note: We do not recommend fasting for long duration (4-5 months),
especially for young women, to keep their body in shape. If you are
not obese, long-term fasting won't do you any good and can have
detrimental effect to your health.
Fat isn't the only thing that reduces during ketosis, it also
decomposes the body's muscles. It is recommended that an adult man
take 60 grams of daily protein intake and 50 grams for adult women to
prevent muscle loss.
Even during fasting, you need to pay attention to nutritional balance,
too, while reducing the amount of your meal.
## How Fasting Affects Constipation and Bowel Movement
Foods can contain elements that are toxic in nature. Therefore, if we
do not eat the right kinds of foods, toxins will accumulate inside our
body. This can create hordes of health problems and keeps the liver,
kidneys, including the digestive tract, from functioning properly.
The overall energy of our body will also weaken, and the intestines
and colon will lose their ability to remove waste as it no longer have
the power to eliminate the feces.

Fasting can help the digestive system to get rest. The energy used for
digesting the food will be saved and your body will able to use that
energy to remove the toxins. It is a good idea to drink plenty of
water or fluids during fasting so that the body can get rid of toxins
through urine.
Once the toxins are eliminated from the body, the organs and the
digestive system can work properly and become more sensitive. This
will help you deal with many health conditions like constipation and
fecal impaction.
It is worth noting that eating breakfast every morning helps stimulate
bowel movement. Remember, it is 1 hour after breakfast when the bowels
are most active.
## How Fasting Increases Your Lifespan
Recently, researchers have found that fasting or cutting your calorie
intake by 25% can be one of the secrets in longer life. In fact, our
ancestors grew up in a world of food scarcity and fasting was quite
common.

The idea behind this is that since aging is a product of high
metabolic rate, the number of free radicals we consume increases. If
you stress your body through fasting or restricting your calories, the
metabolism will slow down. This appears to be the key for anti-aging
and longevity as shown in fasting studies in laboratory mammals, which
improved their lifespan, but it hasn't been established for humans.
However, we do believe that fasting is one of the factors that can
lead to suppress aging and will less likely make you obese or having a
heart disease.
## How You Can Fast Safely
It is recommended that fasting should be done gradually especially if
you have never fasted before.
For example, start with only half a day, and then only have one meal.
Next week, extend your fasting to one full day.

Of course, throughout the day of your fasting, make sure to hydrate
yourself by drinking water or juice. This will help you provide energy
and wash away the toxins in your body.
If you are really hungry, you can just try to take some soup or juice.
This will help prevent constipation, too.
Next time onwards, you can have one-day fasting every week.

WHY GOD CREATED GAPS BETWEEN FINGERS

WHY GOD CREATED GAPS BETWEEN FINGERS

One day Buddha was walking through a village. A very angry and rude
young man came up and began insulting him. "You have no right teaching
others," he
shouted.

"You are as stupid as everyone else. You are nothing but a fake."
Buddha was not upset by these insults. Instead he asked the young man
"Tell me, if you

buy a gift for someone, and that person does not take it, to whom does
the gift belong?" The man was surprised to be asked such a strange
question and

answered, "It would belong to me, because I bought the gift." The
Buddha smiled and said, "That is correct. And it is exactly the same
with your anger.

If you become angry with me and I do not get insulted, then the anger
falls back on you. You are then the only one who becomes unhappy, not
me. All you

have done is hurt yourself." "If you want to stop hurting yourself,
you must get rid of your anger and become loving instead. When you
hate others, you

yourself become unhappy. But when you love others, everyone is happy."
The young man listened closely to these wise words of the Buddha .
"You are right,

o Enlightened One, "he said. "Please teach me the path of love. I wish
to become your follower." The Buddha answered kindly, "Of course. I
teach anyone

who truly wants to learn. Come with me."

Beautiful Quotes If you are right then there is no need to get angry
And if you are wrong then you don't have any right to get angry.

Patience with family is love, Patience with others is respect,
Patience with self is confidence and Patience with GOD is faith.

Never Think Hard about the PAST,

It brings Tears...

Don't Think more about FUTURE,

It brings Fears...

Live this Moment with a Smile,

It brings Cheers.!!!!

Every test in our life makes us bitter or better, Every problem comes
to make us or break us, Choice is ours, whether we become victims or
victorious !!!

Search a beautiful heart, not a beautiful face. Beautiful things are
not always good but good things are always beautiful...

Remember me like a pressed flower in your Notebook. It may not be
having any fragrance, but will remind you of my existence forever in
your life.

Do you know, why God created gaps between fingers? So that someone who
is special to you, comes and fills those gaps by holding your hands
forever.

he Swami and the Amogh Astra
MARKANDEY KATJU
The Hindu

Once upon a time in a country called Buffoonistan there was a Swami
(and there were hordes of them) called Mokshaprapta (one who has
attained salvation).
One day he decided to pray to Lord Shiva for a boon. So he stood on
one leg for 1,000 years with both hands raised and eyes closed (which
is the classic
method of obtaining nirvana in India), praying for Lord Shiva's
darshan (revelation).

Pleased with his indefatigable devotion, Lord Shiva appeared and
blessed him. He then told the Swami to ask for a boon.

The Swami said, "Mahadev, I am deeply dejected because while all
countries in the world have invented wonderful weapons, my country
Buffoonistan has invented
none. The Chinese have invented gunpowder, the British warships, the
Germans tanks, the Japanese kamimaze pilots, and the Americans atom
bombs, my country
has produced nothing."

At this Lord Shiva said, "Do not be dejected. Your country will
produce an Amogh Astra [invincible weapon] which none can match."

"What is that?" enquired the Swami.

"It is anshan [fasting]" replied Lord Shiva. "No weapon can match this."

The Swami became very happy, and asked for details of this wonderful weapon.

Lord Shiva said: "This weapon has no match because none can equal its
spiritual power. However, there is a secret key for using this weapon.
And that is
this: whether you fast for 3 days or 10 or 20, at the end of it your
weight must be more than what it was before you started fasting."

The Swami felt a bit disturbed. "How is that possible?" he asked.
"That is possible only by cheating and eating on the quiet."

"Chee, chee, chee" said the Lord. "Can I advise you to cheat? No, I
will tell you a miraculous method by which you can gain weight while
fasting. You should
close your eyes, open the third one, which, as Yogis have explained,
is on everyone's forehead, and while doing transcendental meditation,
imagine seeing
a lot of delicious dishes there. Then you must in your imagination eat
that. That will really fill your stomach, and increase your weight."

The Swami was delighted and he fell at the feet of Lord Shiva, who
then disappeared.

The next day the Swami began his fast for abolition of corruption in
Buffoonistan. Buffoons from all over the country had assembled in the
shamshanghat
(cremation ground) where the Swami always held his meetings. He chose
this place rather than Jantar Mantar or the Ramlila ground because he
wanted his
followers to develop a spirit of detachment, forgetting about this
world and thinking about the next.

The Swami stood up on an elevated platform before the huge crowd of
buffoons and declared that if a law for abolition of corruption was
not passed in 3
days his peaceful protest would turn into a revolution.

Now this word 'revolution' is dicey. It can mean different things to
different people.

In the audience a rakshas (demon) called Charvak was sitting, and he
was known to be a mischievous fellow. He had the nasty habit of asking
uncomfortable
questions. He got up and said, "As far as I know, a revolution seeks
to totally transform the entire society, like the French Revolution.
You have never
mentioned what kind of revolution you want. I think you are a fraud."

Now saying such a thing, particularly in a crowd of Buffoons, is
extremely dangerous. The crowd has a mob mentality, like the Roman mob
in Shakespeare's
Julius Caesar. When Mark Antony incited the mob against Caesar's
murderers, the mob went around seeking them. They caught hold of a
poet called Cinna,
who was different from Cinna the conspirator, and although he kept
protesting that he was Cinna the poet, and not Cinna the conspirator,
they lynched him
saying, "Hang him for his bad verses."

Something equally sinister may have happened to our rakshas friend,
but the Swami, who is a benevolent person and above petty feelings,
beckoned Charvak
to the dais, embraced him, and whispered smilingly in his ears, "One
more word and I will hang you here upside down." But no one heard him
say this, and
people thought that out of magnanimity the Swami had forgiven Charvak.

The Swami then said loudly, "Our brother has raised a valid point and
we must consider it seriously," and having said so he let him back
into the crowd,
from where he disappeared post haste before the Swami or his followers
could change their minds.

The Swami said, "Our brother has raised an important point. How do we
make revolution? Can any of you answer? After a revolution
Buffoonistan will become
a land of milk and honey, there will be no more corruption, or
poverty, unemployment, price rise, sickness, etc.

"To achieve all this we must realise that this world is Maya, that is,
illusion, as our Vedanta philosophy teaches. So we must realise that
corruption,
poverty, unemployment, etc., are all illusions. Once we realise this,
the revolution will have been achieved.

"So I request all of you to stand on your heads and contemplate the
world as Maya."

Everyone in the crowd then performed the yogic headstand
(sheershasana), and that is the last they were seen doing by this
observer.

The moral of this story is that everyone in Buffoonistan must have
implicit faith in Babas and Swamis to achieve salvation and total
revolution.

(The writer is Chairman, Press Council of India and a former Supreme
Court judge.

The Pig And The Horse

There was a farmer who collected horses; he only needed one more breed to complete his collection. One day, he found out that his neighbor had the particular
horse breed he needed. So, he constantly bothered his neighbor until he sold it to him. A month later, the horse became ill and he called the veterinarian,
who said:

- Well, your horse has a virus. He must take this medicine for three days. I'll come back on the 3rd day and if he's not better, we're going to have to
put him down.

Nobody truly knows which employee actually deserves the merit of success, or who's actually
contributing the necessary support to make things happen.

LEARNING TO LIVE WITHOUT RECOGNITION IS A SKILL!

Two small stories (it's important you read both) that show how the examples we set today, may help shape the character of generations tomorrow.
---------------------------------
